December 2024 Newsletter

Message from Our President

Dear Members and Friends,

As the year comes to a close and each of us takes time to pause and celebrate the holidays, I want to take this opportunity to thank our members for making 2024 such a great year. Without you and our many dedicated volunteers, Finlandia Foundation Boston would not remain the vibrant, active community it is today. A big thank you to all of you for your commitment to the Boston Finnish community!

This evening, Wednesday, December 18, we are delighted to co-host the Women, Peace, and Security event at Hult Business School to wrap up our programming for the year. This event will feature an outstanding panel showcasing Finland’s global leadership in women-led security initiatives and voluntary national defense. The panelists include Anne Nurminen, Executive Director of the Lotta Svärd Foundation, Miia Iivari of the Finnish National Defence Training Association (MPK), and Suvi Aksela of the Women’s National Defence Organization (Naisten Valmiusliitto). There’s still time to register through the Eventbrite link below!

As we move into the new year, mark your calendars for FFB’s Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 3 PM at the Scandinavian Cultural Center, where new board members will be elected. In February 2025, we will celebrate National Sauna Week with a mobile sauna at the Scandinavian Cultural Center. Bookings are now open, so reserve your sauna spot today!

Throughout December, our community came together to celebrate Christmas in many meaningful ways, culminating in a combined Finnish School and FFB Christmas celebration last week. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped keep Finnish Christmas traditions alive, including Joulupukki, who made time to stop by despite his busy schedule!

Finally, I want to wish all of you a peaceful holiday season and a happy New Year! See you again in 2025!

Warm regards,

Henna Capone
