Dear Members and Friends,

Happy New Year from all of us at Finlandia Foundation Boston! We’re excited to kick off 2025 by inviting you to our Annual Meeting this Sunday, January 26^th, at 3PM at the Scandinavian Cultural Center. During this in-person gathering, we’ll give you a recap of 2024, elect a new board, and welcome several new board members. We hope you can join us! Coffee and light snacks will be served.

In celebration of National Sauna Week, our Boston chapter will host a mobile sauna at the Scandinavian Cultural Center from Friday, February 21st, to Sunday, February 23rd. Sauna slots are filling up fast, so make sure to book your sauna today!

Annual meeting: Sunday, January 26, 2025

At our Annual Meeting to be held 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Newton, we will elect several new board members for Finlandia Foundation - Boston. Coffee and light snacks will be available.

The Nominating Committee will put forward the following slate of candidates:

President: Henna Capone (Scituate)

Clerk: Saana McDaniel (Boston)

Treasurer: Petri Perinne (Dover)

Directors: Simo J. Lahtinen (Salem), Katariina Majamaa (Cambridge), Lydia Rigby (Medford), and up for re-election Erika Verkkonen (Sharon). These positions are for two-year terms starting January 2025.

Tiina Itämeri (South Boston), Anni Karhapää (Bolton), Teresia Möller (Framingham), and Lauren Tuiskula (Allston) will continue to serve on the board through 2025.

Finlandia Foundation National Scholarships

The FFN Scholarship application deadline is February 1, 2025

The scholarship application must be submitted with required support documents by 11:59 P.M. PST on FEBRUARY 1, 2025.

Finlandia Foundation Boston presents National Sauna Week 2025

Abundance Sauna will be at the Scandinavian Cultural Center in Newton, celebrating National Sauna Week, Friday thru Sunday February 21-23, 2025.

Each participant must provide their own towels, swimsuits and hydration.

Preregistration is required. A welcome/orientation packet will be sent and a liability waiver must be signed by each participant.

Suomi-Koulu Update

Suomi-koulu started the spring season enjoying the winter weather! Our students played in the snow, baked tasty Finnish "pannukakku" (oven pancake) and made fun crafts.

Our next school day is January 25th 10am to 12pm in Weston.

Highlights from our recent events

Thank you to everyone who attended our Women, Peace, and Security event hosted at Hult Business School in December. The event highlighted Finland's leadership in women-led security initiatives and voluntary national defense, showcasing the critical role of women in enhancing national and global security.

Membership Renewals Are Due!

It is now time to renew your membership or to become a new member of Finlandia Foundation – Boston for 2025. The annual membership fee, which runs from January through December, is $20 for individuals, $10 for senior members and students, and $30 for families.
