SUMMARY:Finnish Scientists Netta Makinen and Minttu Ronn Talk DNA and Infectious Disease Research
DESCRIPTION:In addition to Finnish cultural programming\, we here at the Boston Chapter\, will also be highlighting the achievements and work of Finnish scientists. They are contributing to our knowledge in the STEM fields right here in Boston\, where we are known for our world class universities and institutions. \nJoin us for an informative Zoom session to meet two scientists who grew up in Finland and currently reside in the Boston area. They will tell us about their backgrounds and provide an overview of their important research in the areas of infectious disease and DNA sequencing for understanding cancer. \nNetta Makinen received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine at University of Helsinki in 2015. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In her work\, she uses sequencing technologies such as whole genome and single-cell DNA sequencing to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the early phases of cancer development. \nMinttu Ronn was born in Turku and received a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from University of Helsinki. She completed her MPH and Ph.D. in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London. She is currently a Research Scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research interests focus on understanding how different infections impact population health\, identifying risk factors for diseases and estimating the impact of existing and novel preventative efforts. \nTime: Sep 17\, 2022 03:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://dfci.zoom.us/j/99859504062?pwd=eUloTGx0dUd1cnU5djZpM25aQWUyZz09 \nMeeting ID: 998 5950 4062\nPasscode: 443470
