As a current board member of Finlandia Foundation – Boston Chapter, and as one of two Finns sitting on the board of the Scandinavian Library http://scandinavianlibrary.org/ I wanted to inform and encourage Finnish speakers to become members of the library.
The Scandinavian Library is about 25 years old and is located in the Scandinavian Living Center (SLC) in Newton. It is open every Saturday ( under normal circumstances ) from 11 AM – 3 PM. There is a small Finnish collection of books available to members. Due to space limitations the Library is able to accept only new Finnish literature. The latest additions are Kjell Westo’s TRITONUS and Sofi Oksanen’s KOIRAPUISTO. These will be available for borrowing at the end of November. Since the SLC, including the library, is closed to visitors due to Corona virus, the administrator is working very hard to arrange borrowing in different ways.
In the future, when we can meet in groups again, the Library will resume running the very popular Scandinavian film series. Pre-pandemic, films were shown Saturday afternoons at the SLC . Go to the Scandinavian Library web site http://scandinavianlibrary.org/ to find out more and please become a member.
